At Ivy Kids Pre-school Melaka, we believe that education extends far beyond the four walls of a classroom. In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, our campus was recently filled with the aromatic scents of tradition. Our students embarked on a heartwarming culinary journey of learning to prepare the traditional Bubur Lambuk.
Sensory Adventure: Exploring traditional spices.
This activity was more than just a cooking session; it was a comprehensive Sensory Development experience. Our little chefs had the opportunity to touch, smell, and identify various natural spices such as cinnamon, star anise, and turmeric. This hands-on approach aligns perfectly with our core philosophy of a "Natural Environment" for learning. By engaging their senses, our students gained a deeper, more organic understanding of Malaysia’s rich multicultural heritage.
Key Sensory Exploration Activities:
Touch: Feeling the different textures of spices like cinnamon sticks and star anise.
Smell: Identifying the fragrant aromas of turmeric and other traditional spices.
Taste: Understanding how spices influence the flavor of food, even though the cooking process wasn’t entirely about tasting.
This experience highlights the importance of sensory development in early childhood learning, ensuring that children not only learn about the world around them but also engage with it in a meaningful way.
The Joy of Giving: Sharing the love with our community
Guided by our dedicated educators, the children practiced essential Life Skills, including teamwork and patience. Watching the ingredients transform into a nourishing porridge taught them the beauty of process and the joy of sharing. At Ivy Kids, we emphasize holistic development, ensuring that every child learns the value of "giving is better than receiving", a core lesson of the Ramadan season.

Understanding the importance of community
By helping to distribute the Bubur Lambuk, the children gained a sense of community, contributing to a larger cause.
